What to bring
Here are some handy tips on what to bring with you when you come to Gulmarg.
We recommend that you bring all of the essentials including; soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sun cream, personal toiletries/medicines, disprin for blood thinning/altitude head-ache, Rehydration sachets, power adaptor plug, charger, camera, MP3 music system, 2-way radios, spare batteries, lighters (Indian batteries & lighters are not very reliable), helmet, avalanche transceiver and airbag, shovel, probe, hydration pack or water bottle, goggles/glasses, spare parts for snowboard bindings and some “comfort food” (lollies, candy, for a sugar-hit).
Bring a head-lamp or night-light/torch (per room) as there can be occasional outages in the Indian electricity supply.
There are NO bars and NO alcohol in Gulmarg, so get duty-free on arrival in Dehli (before clearing customs, they do take credit-cards).
There are NO banks and NO credit-card facilities in Gulmarg, so change your currency for Indian Rupees at either of the two banks (open 24-hours) after you clear customs & duty-free at Dehli International Airport (if you negotiate the bank will NOT charge any commission). Retain your “encashment certificate” as the banks will not convert Rupees back to your home currency with-out it. ATM machine “cash with-drawl” certificates are NO GOOD for re-converting currency.
